I wanted to share a little update on how things have been going lately, especially after the last couple of posts about my hormone journey. It’s been about three months since I started making changes to get everything back in balance, and honestly, I’m feeling so much better.
The constant leg fatigue that stuck around for almost a year? Gone. I’m finally sleeping well again, my energy is coming back, and my mood swings have settled down quite a bit. It’s been a huge relief to feel like myself again.
But of course, progress isn’t always a straight line.
Once I started running more consistently, a different issue popped up. In May, I jumped into a 5K and was so excited to feel strong enough to take the overall win. But at the same time, I was dealing with nagging sciatica pain that decided to flare up just as my training was picking up.
I managed to recover enough to do a 14-mile trail run in June, which I took pretty easy because the sciatica had actually shifted to the other side by then. Even so, it was such a fun experience, and I was able to snag the master’s win. Most importantly, I just loved being out on the trails again.
But right after that race, the pain got a lot worse. I had to take a break from running for a bit, and when I started back, every run came with that same nagging discomfort. The silver lining was that running didn’t seem to make it worse—it was just there, being stubborn. So I’ve been easing back in slowly, hoping to turn the corner soon.
Even with this setback, I’m really encouraged by how much progress I’ve made overall. It feels like three steps forward, one step back—but that’s still moving in the right direction.
If you’ve been feeling off—whether it’s fatigue, mood swings, or anything you just can’t quite explain—I can’t recommend getting some thorough blood work done enough. Figuring out what’s really going on under the surface has made such a difference for me, and it might help you get answers too.
I’m looking forward to getting back to consistent training and chasing some new goals. In the meantime, coaching has been such a highlight. Watching my runners make progress and hit their own milestones has been so motivating and reminds me why I love this sport so much.
